CDDB error on creation of a virtual audio CD

Freedb.org has suspended its free database from March 31, 2020.

To avoid the error message, please turn off CDDB support in the Virtual CD Settings -> "Configuration" tab.

The next version will use an alternate database.

Addendum, 02/16/2022: Meanwhile freedb.org redirects to gnudb.org. In order for this database to be used, the following changes are necessary:

  • Importing a new VC10CDDB.dll: Please rename the file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Virtual CD v10\System before you copy the new file there!
  • Change the registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\H+H Software GmbH\Virtual CD 10\CDDB\Site from freedb.freedb.org to gnudb.gnudb.org.
Alternatively you can download a registry file here and execute it by doubl-clicking it: gnudb.reg

Addendum, 08.05.2024: Meanwhile you have to register for a so-called uniqcode at Gnudb in order to be able to use the CDDB function in Virtual CD. This uniqcode serves as a hostname, e.g. "uniqcode.gnudb.org" instead of "gnudb.gnudb.org". This ensures Gnudb remains free for personal and fair use.
Please change the value of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\H+H Software GmbH\Virtual CD 10\CDDB\Site accordingly.
Hints:

  • This may require a restart of your PC!
  • Testing the connection makes the Virtual CD settings program crash. However this has not negative side effect on the functionality of CDDB.
